During the second edition of Malaysian PDP (Professional Design Programme), I worked with HupChong, a company owned by the president of Malaysian Furniture Council and a very big player in ASEAN furniture market. The briefing was about designing a piece of furniture, namely a low coffee table, that could be easily flat-packed and that could show HupChong’s skill in assembling very reliable parts and products. The result is a product where all the parts are obtained by simply cutting the same boards, using an acacia-compound plank. The circles are then mounted intersecting them with the main boards and kept together with a clever metal fixing element so everybody can do that with ease. And with a screwdriver.
