Ok, the flower of sacred lotus as inspiration is quite overused in design. But when SlowWood, a startup company asked me to design an object that could make a great and consistent use of wood and I started designing a big solid element surrounded by a metal cage, the similarities with the infamous flower became obvious. In fact, apart from the petals, which are of course the most pictured part of the whole flower, also the seeds are represented here, by the big and bulky core. The outer cage is a useful tool because it allows the user to place magazines and stuff without filling the surface of the table.
